We are delighted Tim Lawrence, referee development officer at Surrey FA will be facilitating our workshop at the Old Tenisonians.

Tim Lawrence is married to Celia with 2 grown up children. He have worked in many
industries including 20 years in the entertainment business on the technical side of
stage shows, with many household names including some well-known ‘dames’ and

He started refereeing in 1972 and progressed to the Contributory League – the West
Sussex Football League and Sussex County Football League where for 10 seasons.
Refereeing highlights include:

  • Sussex County FA – Referee 4 cup finals inc. Senior Cup and Floodlight Cup
  • Southern League Championship match – Assistant Referee
  • Assistant Referee Aldershot v Woking FA Cup 4 th QR + replay
  • 4 th official Premier League + live sky matches
  • Brighton v Chester 1996 – ran the line for 60 mins as fourth official (Mark
  • Halsey’s first football league match as a referee)
  • Sussex County FL Div 2 Cup Final – Referee

Tim has been involved in referee education since 1982 and was an FA Level 4
Referee Tutor, training and appraising other Referee Tutors and delivering National
and Regional FA Referee Tutor Courses. He observes regularly at Contributory
League level and is an FA Referee Coach, Mentor and trains Referee Observers
He was the Sussex CFA County Training Officer for 7 years and since June 2008 has
been employed full time as the Referee Development Officer for Surrey County FA.
